The 60-second answer
BayMax wins on value.
PuraMax 2 wins on flexibility.
Choose CATLINK BayMax when the final price gap remains at least €150, you want its multi-cat reporting and CATLINK ships directly to your supported European address. Choose PETKIT PuraMax 2 when the second sifter, published 200 mm entry, PETKIT app ecosystem or an easy France-based purchase route solves a real need.
Choose neither without a return plan for a very long or broad cat, a cat that avoids covered boxes, or a cat with pain or restricted movement. Published weight ranges do not prove comfortable turning space.
Our decision rule: if both fit the cat and both have workable support, compare the final basket — machine, ramp, bags, deodoriser, litter waste, delivery and returns — not the headline price.
These machines look close enough to compare by price. The useful differences only appear after we separate exact model data from brand-level marketing — and after we ask where the reader actually lives.
Do this before opening a retailer
Your country can change the winner
An English article can be read globally; a warranty and affiliate route cannot. These are the destinations we verified on 27 August 2026.
The shipping policy lists eligible mainland European destinations, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Islands and overseas areas have exclusions.
Our current tracked route opens the official PETKIT storefront on Amazon France. It is not presented as a global link.
Use the editorial comparison, then buy locally. We will add buttons only after a country programme and destination are verified.
Model-specific data, not brand averages
PuraMax 2 vs BayMax specifications
Where a product page contradicts itself, the table reports the conflict instead of promoting the larger number.
| Decision point | PETKIT PuraMax 2 | CATLINK BayMax | What it means at home |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exact model | P9902 · T4-2 | Scooper SE · BayMax | Check the model code on marketplaces; brand-level comparisons often mix generations. |
| Price observed 27 Aug 2026 | €599 on the premium product page; marked sold out. Collection page advertised from €549. | €349.99 sale price on the official EU page; another block showed €339.99. | Treat displayed prices as a snapshot. Compare the final basket, seller and included consumables. |
| External dimensions | 620 × 538 × 552 mm | 599 × 533 × 545 mm | BayMax is only modestly smaller. Leave room for the drawer, lid, plug and cleaning. |
| Machine weight | About 10 kg | About 11 kg | Both need a hard, level surface; do not place them on deep carpet. |
| Published cat-weight range | 1.5–10 kg; manufacturer says over 6 months | 1.58–10 kg | Weight is a safety threshold, not proof that a long or broad cat can turn comfortably. |
| Entry | 200 mm published entry height | No equally clear entry-height figure on the product page checked | PuraMax 2 provides the more useful published number for mobility planning. |
| Waste drawer | 7 L | 7 L in the specification table | CATLINK also displays a 13 L marketing claim elsewhere; we use the model-specific specification table. |
| Globe/cabin claim | 76 L marketed cabin | 70 L in specifications; 75 L in another official block | Litres are not a standardised comfort measurement. Internal geometry matters more. |
| Litter | Two sifters for fine clumping litter and compatible tofu/mixes; avoid pieces over 12 mm | Compatible clumping litter; avoid long tofu pellets | PuraMax 2 has the clearer documented advantage if you want to change substrate. |
| Multi-cat data | Weight, visits and history in the PETKIT app | Identification, weight, visits and reports promoted for multi-cat homes | Close-weight cats can still be confused. App data is a prompt to observe, not a diagnosis. |
| Connectivity | 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi | App-connected; check local network requirements during setup | Test signal where the box will stand before assuming a stable connection. |
| Warranty shown | 24 months on the official EU product page | 2 years on the official EU page | The practical difference is the seller, return address and parts support in your country. |

Fit first, features second
A 10 kg limit does not make a globe spacious
We found only a 21 mm difference in width and a 7 mm difference in height. That is not enough to choose for a large cat. Body length, shoulder width, turning posture and tolerance for an enclosed doorway matter more.

Measure the cat, not only the alcove
Watch the posture in a familiar open tray. If the cat braces against the walls, turns in stages or keeps the head outside a covered box, a closed globe deserves a return option.
Plan service clearance
Add access for the drawer, top or cylinder removal, power cable and floor cleaning. PETKIT also asks for a hard level surface and about 5 cm from walls.
Keep a conventional tray
A second toilet protects against rejection, power loss, a full drawer, maintenance and social blocking. Place resources apart rather than in one cluster.
Mobility changes the calculation
PuraMax 2 publishes a 200 mm entry. A step or ramp may help access, but it does not enlarge the internal turning circle or treat pain.
Cat Friendly Homes recommends considering size, location, access and individual preference when selecting a litter-box setup. A self-cleaning mechanism does not override those basics.
The clearest functional difference
Two PETKIT sifters are useful — if you use them correctly
PETKIT documents one sifter for finer clumping material and another for compatible tofu or mixed litter. The manual excludes pieces longer than 12 mm. CATLINK accepts compatible clumping litter but also warns against long tofu pellets.

Strong, fast clumps and low tracking matter. Dust can still accumulate on sensors and liners.
Measure pellet length and use the intended sifter. “Tofu compatible” is not universal.
Closed drawers help, but stool consistency, litter, heat and emptying frequency dominate.
A useful signal, not a veterinary diagnosis
BayMax makes the stronger multi-cat pitch
CATLINK places individual profiles, weight and visit reports at the centre of BayMax. PETKIT also logs visits, duration and weight. In both systems, cats with close body weights and shared timing can make attribution less reliable.

Use trends as questions
A changed visit pattern is a reason to observe the cat and the tray. It is not enough to alter food, medication or veterinary plans by itself.
Check privacy before permissions
Read the PETKIT privacy policy or CATLINK privacy policy, limit unnecessary permissions and use a unique account password.
Do not let one doorway become a bottleneck
Multi-cat software cannot show every blocked approach. Separated resources are still part of a cat-friendly environment.
The published feline environmental guidance emphasises multiple, separated and accessible resources. That principle is more important than the number of profiles inside an app.
Hard boundaries for either model
Do not choose safety by counting sensors
PETKIT describes its detection logic in the T4-2 manual. CATLINK markets multiple detection layers. Those claims use different definitions and are not an independent head-to-head protocol.
- 1Respect minimum weight and age
For kittens or cats below the limit, disable automatic cycles and operate only when the animal is away.
- 2Use a hard, level floor
Deep rugs, unstable boards, objects under the base or contact with a wall can affect weighing and movement.
- 3Supervise initial cycles
Stop use after abnormal movement, repeated errors, damaged liners, leaks or unreliable detection.
- 4Escalate health changes
Straining, repeated visits, pain, blood, absent urine or sudden avoidance deserves veterinary attention, not an app setting.
The FelineVMA house-soiling update reinforces that inappropriate elimination can have medical, environmental and social causes. A new machine should never hide a health change.
A better comparison than headline price
Calculate three-year ownership in one line
Neither brand publishes a universal household cost. Use your actual local prices and replacement rhythm.
Three-year cost = machine + required accessories + bags + deodorisers + filters + extra litter waste + delivery − realistic resale value.
If the final supported-market gap remains €150 or more, it is difficult for minor feature differences to recover that amount.
Pay more only if the second sifter, entry specification, seller route or PETKIT ecosystem solves a need you can name.
A simple, affordable return can be worth more than a small discount when the cat has never accepted a covered globe.
Protect acceptance and your return window
A calm 14-day transition
Do not remove the familiar tray or start automatic cycling on day one. The goal is voluntary use before convenience.
- 1Days 1–3 · silent object
Place the unplugged machine near — not blocking — the familiar tray. Add familiar litter and reward neutral investigation.
- 2Days 4–7 · manual cleaning
After the cat leaves the room, run one supervised cycle. Keep the old tray clean and available.
- 3Days 8–10 · compare behaviour
Watch entry, turning, posture and exit. Avoidance, rushing or edge perching is useful feedback.
- 4Days 11–14 · cautious automation
Enable delayed cycles only after repeated relaxed use. Keep a backup tray, especially in multi-cat homes.
Direct answers
PuraMax 2 vs BayMax FAQ
Is PETKIT PuraMax 2 better than CATLINK BayMax?+
Not for every home. PuraMax 2 has the stronger documented case for litter flexibility, a published 200 mm entry and the PETKIT ecosystem. BayMax is the value choice when the final price gap remains large and its supported European shipping area fits your country. Cat size, posture and an easy return route should decide before the brand.
Which is better for multiple cats?+
BayMax has a slight feature-positioning advantage because CATLINK makes multi-cat identification and reports central to the model. PuraMax 2 also records weight and visits. Neither solves resource guarding, and cats with similar weights may be misidentified, so keep separate toileting options in different locations.
Can a Maine Coon use the PuraMax 2 or BayMax?+
The published weight ceiling is not enough to answer. A long, broad or stiff cat may struggle to turn inside either closed globe even below 10 kg. Measure body length and normal toileting posture, retain a large open tray and choose a seller with a workable return policy.
Does CATLINK BayMax have a 13 L waste drawer?+
CATLINK's page is internally inconsistent. Its model specification table lists a 7 L waste drawer, while another marketing block mentions 13 L. We use the 7 L model-specific figure and advise confirming the current manual or asking CATLINK before purchase.
Which automatic litter box works better with tofu litter?+
PuraMax 2 is the clearer choice on documentation because PETKIT supplies two sifter options and describes compatible tofu or mixed litter. Pieces longer than 12 mm are excluded. CATLINK also warns against long tofu pellets, so check grain length and clumping behaviour rather than relying on the word tofu alone.
Which one controls odour better?+
The documents do not support a fair winner. Both use a closed waste drawer and optional deodorising consumables. Litter quality, stool consistency, room temperature, drawer-emptying frequency and cleaning routine can outweigh the cartridge system.
Which is safer?+
We do not rank safety from a sensor count or a manufacturer's layers claim. Install either machine on a hard level floor, obey age and weight limits, supervise early cycles, keep a conventional tray available and stop automatic operation if detection or movement looks abnormal.
Can I use one automatic litter box for two cats?+
It may handle the waste volume, but one doorway can still be guarded and one failure can remove the only toilet. Feline environmental guidance favours multiple separated resources. Keep at least one additional tray while you assess acceptance and social access.
Does either app replace checking the litter box?+
No. Weight and visit trends can be useful alerts, but they do not reliably show urine volume, straining, pain, blood, constipation or which close-weight cat used the box. Direct observation and veterinary advice remain essential when behaviour changes.

Final decision
Buy for the cat you have — not the feature list.
If both globes fit comfortably, BayMax is the stronger value at the price observed. PuraMax 2 earns its premium only when litter flexibility, its published entry or the PETKIT route matters in your home. If fit is uncertain, the best product is the one you can return without a fight.
